here is a little fiber love

the beginning

Lately I’ve been showing some materials, fiber that has been dyed and so on. To that measure pictured below is some yarn that I’ve handspun on my wooden spinning wheel (Fast & Furious Lucille).

I’m showing the raw materials to illustrate the proverbial beginning, and to demonstrate how each Moa HandKnits item is handcrafted from start to finish.

Moreover, the materials such as suri alpaca, wools, mohair, etc, are sustainable animal fibers that come from a crew of dear suppliers that treat their animals/processes with supreme kindness.

These aforementioned suppliers are farmers, animal rescuers, hand dyers, artists, and most importantly they are friends. Frankly, Moa HandKnits wouldn’t exist without them.

People ask me "what is your inspiration"; the answer to that question is that my inspiration comes from everything, and sometimes nothing. Out of thin air, or a compilation of many things (including candy, coffee, nature, people, and more). But what inspires me most is working with the raw materials, given each have their own identity.
Handspun yarn from top to bottom:
Cutie Pie Yarn: baby alpaca, merino, and other speciality bits, all hand dyed
Fiesta: carbonized bamboo, hand dyed animal fiber accents
Iris: hand dyed alpaca, blended with wool accents
Indigo: hand dyed merino wool

Hi there. As summer winds down you will see glimmers of Moa HandKnits Fall Collection appearing in my online store. (yeah babe)

This year you can expect alot of handspun fibers in the garments for Fall and Winter. There will be punches of color in conjunction with beautiful naturals, like the yak/merino that everyone is so crazy about.

Ladies, we're going to have a lot of fun with it, and look fabulous to boot!

This year is about the pullover, easy wearing wraps, shrugs, super fun hats, and other delights. You will be able to wear these garments casually, or dress them up, you will find them very versitile to fit your busy lifestyle.

Lastly, but certainly not least, the Artisans featured in the boutique have put out some amazing hand crafted work. I'm blown away by their talent! Gloves, jewelry, hats, you won't believe it. And handbags? Forgettaboutit. Ladies, it will be love.

A secret is that Daniel Storto and i are in cahoots with some of my cashmere sweaters that are going to be turned into gloves. These will be excluse to Moa HandKnits, nobody else will have anything like it. In pumpkin, black, chocolate brown, and more. Sweet!

Today, Coated Merino arrived. It's stark white, fluffy and as close to perfection as something can be. Not one little piece of VM. Not one tiny scrapling of hay or grass. Just merino, soft like buttercream icing.

Not to mention. Suri. For the love of God...Suri.
And it's Black.
The purest of blacks.
In fact, it's blacker than black, it's...like seeing into eternity.

Sound dramatic? Or, dare I say, ABSURD to idealize the hair of pasture animals?

Tisk, tisk, one can never be too dramatic over fine fiber!
This stuff, it's legendary and I've hit the motherload.

But it's not all for me dear harlots! It is for sharing and caring, like good fiber friends do. I will have this Beautiful Black Suri and Coated Merino for sale in my July 5th Open House.
If i can stand to sell it.
